Did you know, hanging around in The Beach is just as fun in the winter as it is the summer? There is no shortage of exciting things to do, which is why we’ve compiled a list of the best things happening in The Beach this winter:

Back for a third year, the winning pieces from the Winter Station Design Contest are on display along the Toronto beaches. The challenge was to design an art piece around one of the beach’s lifeguard chairs, and the theme for this year was “catalyst”. The 6 winning installations are located on Balmy, Kew and Ashbridges Bay beaches in Toronto’s east end, and are inviting Torontonians to get out and explore the city’s waterfront.

Take a stroll on the 3 KM boardwalk

It’s never too cold for a winter stroll! Bundle up and enjoy the beautiful and scenic boardwalk that spans 3 km of the Toronto waterfront. Grab a bite to eat at one of the local restaurants, or grab a hot coffee (or chocolate) at one of the coffee shops nearby to take with you on your walk. We recommend taking an early-morning stroll to catch the sunrise over the water!

It’s a great way to get out of the house and get some exercise! However, make sure to check the schedule and ice conditions before you head out!

Take a mini vacation with a visit to the Scarborough Bluffs. If you’ve never been, it is like nothing you’ve ever seen before, and needless to say, is one of the province’s natural wonders. The bluffs look over the gorgeous waterfront, while also acting as a nature hub for fish, birds and other wildlife. The best thing is, the Bluffs are just as beautiful in the winter as they are the summer. You won’t want to forget your camera!

The covered ice rink and brand new skating path at Greenwood and Dundas is intended to be a new landmark for the city. As it’s the first covered rink in Toronto, it will be open much later than any other outdoor skating rink in the city – making it easy for you to get a skate in this season. This 215-meter skating path is weather permitting, so calling in advance to check skating schedules and ice conditions is definitely advisable. You won’t want to miss out!

Satisfy your sweet tooth at Toronto’s Sugar Shack at Sugar Beach (Mar 11-12)

If you’re bold enough to surf in the cold water of Lake Ontario, we’ve got exciting news for you! This winter’s weather has turned the lake’s normally tame water into epic surfing waves! Be sure to bring a buddy and bundle up! You’ll need a thick neoprene wetsuit, booties and gloves, and then you’ll be ready to hit the waves at one of the sweet spots on the shores of Lake Ontario or Georgian Bay. Surf’s up!

Go Rock Climbing (Dundas East and Carlaw)

The Rock Oasis is one of the best rock climbing spots in the city! They’re open 365 days a year, and have walls and activities for people of all ages and levels. They have six climbing bays with multiple routes and angles, a bouldering area, kids area and brand new auto belays (ropes!). If you’ve never tried rock climbing before, you can book a lesson with one of their trained staff. Rock on!

Take your dog for an off-leash run (Cherry Beach)

Bring your best friend with you for a play date at the Cherry Beach off-leash dog park. It’s the perfect place to throw around a ball, go for a run or just goof off at. Your furry friend is bound to meet another furry friend, and we think it’s also a great place for people to meet. Best of all, the dog park is located right by the water, so you’ll have a gorgeous view while you play your hearts out.
