5 Reasons We Love The Queensway

Feb 2, 2018

The Queensway is one of those great, peaceful Toronto locations in the west end with a strong sense of community and neighbourhood pride. Recently, this hidden gem has seen a growing number of new families and young professionals moving to the area in search of the calm, quiet, and cost-effective housing. With so many wonderful things happening in the area, we wanted to share our top 5 reasons why you should look at The Queensway for your next home.

The Location

The Queensway

The Queensway is really one of those areas where you can get the best of both worlds when it comes to city living: convenient downtown Toronto access, as well as a wonderful calming escape from the hustle and bustle of city living. This is an area where you can centre yourself with long nature hikes in the numerous local parks (High Park, Jeff Healey, Etobicoke Valley, and Queensway to name a few) or enjoy a picnic at the lakefront, taking in the summer sun.

This is also an incredible place to immerse yourself in a strong, vibrant neighbourhood. With annual celebrations like the Lakeshore Community Festival, the Etobicoke-Lakeshore Christmas Parade, and the Mimico Festival (complete with kite flying contests!), it’s easy to see why the area has developed such a strong community spirit.

The Transportation

The Queensway

Of course, transportation options are key when you’re looking to live outside the downtown hub. The great thing about The Queensway area is that it caters to transit-riders and car-owners alike; providing you with options to travel into the city or further west. The 80 Queensway bus route is a mainstay, running all the way along from Sherway Gardens Shopping Mall to Keele Station all day, every day. If you’re a stickler for taking the subway it’s worth noting that both Kipling and Islington stations are well within reach! Or make your way to the Mimico Go transit stop near Royal York Road and speed along to Exhibition or Union Station.

Not one for public transit? The Gardiner Expressway is right there for your morning commute downtown. Of course, if you work in Mississauga, Oakville or any of the western parts of the GTA, both Hwy 427 and the QEW are also easily accessible from the area.

The Shopping

The Queensway

Let’s face it, shopping options can make or break an area. Whether you’re an avid shop-til-you-drop spender or someone who simply enjoys window shopping, The Queensway offers a great collection of local businesses and big retailers. Be sure to make your way to the huge, newly renovated Sherway Gardens Shopping Mall, offering everything from Aldo to Saks Fifth Avenue and Sephora. Feel like outfitting your space and organizing those new clothing purchases? There’s a local Bed, Bath & Beyond and Ikea along the way before you finish off your day with a visit to Costco for some crazy wholesale deals!

The Things To Do

The Queensway

One of our favourite aspects about The Queensway is the sheer amount of amenities this area offers. With so many options for restaurants and bistros available, you could try something new every single night! Try the ever-popular Bier Markt or make your way to the semi-hidden Pie Commission to eat in or take home; and for those of you with a sweet tooth, be sure to stop in at Spin Dessert Café for a late night treat.

Of course the tried and true mainstays are also widely available with your favourite dinner options. Start your night off with Montana’s or Kelsey’s and then grab a drink at Milestone’s before heading to the local Cineplex Cinema & VIP located right behind these restaurants. Date nights just became that much easier … unless decision making isn’t your strong suit.

The Recreational Community

The Queensway

Another amazing aspect about The Queensway community is the recreational opportunities the area has to offer. Gyms like Fit 4 Less, H.A.R.D. Studio, and Kingsway Boxing Club – to name a few – are scattered all over the area. Be sure to check out the Moksha Yoga studio for some restorative classes or, if you’re the adventurous type, Boulderz Climbing Centre offers a great workout for beginners!

Not only does The Queensway community have a lot to offer now, but the future looks even brighter. Be sure to keep your eye on this developing neighbourhood; we guarantee this is one of those spots you would be proud to call home.
